About Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town's history is out of proportion to their size: champions of England in 1961/62 in their first ever top-flight season, under an Alf Ramsey who left to win the World Cup, then the 1978 FA Cup and the 1981 UEFA Cup under Bobby Robson, who followed the same road to the England job. Portman Road has been home since 1884, and no visiting side has ever won a European tie there.

The modern club yo-yos with intent. Kieran McKenna's three promotions in four seasons ended with him stepping down in June 2026 after the side went straight back up in second, sealed 3–0 against QPR on the final day. Gary O'Neil arrived from Strasbourg to take on the harder half of the job: staying up, with a core of Dara O'Shea, Jacob Greaves and 16-goal Jack Clarke intact and a club-record fee spent on the Brazilian forward Emersonn.
