About World Cup 2030
The 2030 FIFA World Cup is the centenary edition, hosted jointly by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The FIFA Council named the combined bid the sole candidacy in October 2023, and the hosting was confirmed at a FIFA Congress in December 2024. Three centenary matches will be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, with the first at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, the stadium that staged the first final in 1930.
Qualification is the part with the least settled. FIFA's Council said the host countries would qualify automatically from the existing slot allocation, which covers Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Reports also list Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay among the teams already through as centenary hosts, but we have not found FIFA wording that confirms it, so the page above marks those three as reported rather than confirmed. Nobody else has a place yet.
The format is also open. The current plan is 48 teams, as in 2026, and a one-off 64-team tournament has been floated by CONMEBOL's president and is under discussion. We found no FIFA decision on it. FIFA has not published how many places each confederation gets, so any table of slots you see elsewhere is a projection. Concacaf has set out its own qualifying plan, with a first round from September 2027 and a final round running to autumn 2029, but that is a confederation timetable, not a FIFA ruling.
Reported dates run from 8 June to 21 July 2030, with the centenary matches first and the opening matches in Morocco, Portugal and Spain a few days later. The final is expected on 21 July and its venue has not been announced. We will not quote a match count or a final venue until FIFA publishes one.
Until the field exists there is nothing honest to model. The moment qualifying produces fixtures, each match here gets the same treatment as the 2026 pages: a seeded Monte Carlo simulation you can run yourself, live odds framed as information rather than a tip, the tactical brief, and a graded record with the misses left in. Analysis to argue with, not betting advice.
Common questions
- Where is the 2030 World Cup?
- Spain, Portugal and Morocco host jointly, with three centenary matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. The first of those is at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
- When is the 2030 World Cup?
- Reported dates run from 8 June to 21 July 2030, with the centenary matches in South America first. The final is expected on 21 July but FIFA has not confirmed the date or the venue.
- Which teams have already qualified for the 2030 World Cup?
- Spain, Portugal and Morocco, as hosts. FIFA said the host countries would qualify automatically from the existing slot allocation. Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay are reported to be through as centenary hosts, but we have not found FIFA wording that confirms it.
- How many teams will play in the 2030 World Cup?
- The current plan is 48. A 64-team tournament has been proposed by CONMEBOL's president and discussed, but we found no FIFA decision on it.
- How many places does each confederation get for 2030?
- FIFA has not announced the allocation. Any slot table published before it does is a projection.
- When does 2030 World Cup qualifying start?
- Not every confederation has published a calendar. Concacaf has set out a plan with a first round from September 2027 and a final round running to autumn 2029. We have not found confirmed start dates for the other confederations.
- Where will the 2030 World Cup final be played?
- Not announced. Several stadiums in the three host countries are being discussed, but FIFA has not named one, so we do not either.
- Are there 2030 World Cup predictions on Touchline yet?
- No, because the field does not exist. Once qualifying produces fixtures, each match gets a full Monte Carlo model, live odds and the tactical brief, with every call kept on the record.
