Terms of service

The plain-English terms for using Touchline. By using the site, creating a profile, or becoming a member you agree to them. We have kept them short and readable, not scary.

What Touchline is

Touchline is a football model and an editorial companion. It turns a fixture into a brief you can read, a simulation you can run, and a set of receipts you can check. The numbers are the output of a stated, seeded model, not a prediction from a machine that knows the future.

Everything on the site is information, not betting advice. It is analysis to argue with. Market odds, where they appear, are shown as information and never as a recommendation. Nobody should stake money on the strength of anything you read here. The model can be wrong, and it will sometimes be wrong, so check anything that matters.

Your account and handle

You can browse Touchline without an account. To post reviews, ratings, predictions or a top five, and to claim a public profile, you create an account and choose a username, or handle. The handle is how the room and other sites refer to you, so keep it civil and do not impersonate anyone.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. We may reclaim a handle that is dormant for a long stretch, that squats a name in bad faith, that impersonates a person or brand, or that is used abusively. We will tell you where we reasonably can before doing so.

Membership and payments

The model, the simulations and the receipts are free and stay free. Membership is a paid option that adds a short handle, a badge, a member number, and the members’ room. It is billed annually through Stripe, our payment processor, and renews each year until you cancel.

You can cancel any time through the Stripe billing portal, linked from your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period, and your membership runs to the end of the term you have paid for. Prices may change, and we will give you notice before a change affects your renewal.

We do not see or store your card details. Stripe handles the card and shares a customer reference and a subscription status with us, nothing more. Stripe’s own terms apply to the payment itself.

Organisation accounts

Organisation accounts are for editorial and media brands: publications, podcasts, outlets and the writers who post under them. They are not for tipsters, and not for sportsbooks or anyone selling betting. We verify organisations at our discretion, and we can decline or withdraw verification.

Organisations are billed per seat. An organisation can only affiliate a member with that member’s consent: it sends an invite, and the affiliation exists only once the member accepts it. Either side can end the affiliation at any time, and doing so does not delete anything the member has already posted.

Your content

Your reviews, ratings, predictions and top fives are yours. You keep ownership of them. By posting them you grant Touchline a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute them as part of the site and its embeds, including on your public profile and in aggregate figures like a match’s room rating.

You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it. Keep it lawful and civil. We can remove content that breaks these terms or the law, and if you delete your account we stop displaying your content, though cached or aggregated copies may persist for a short time.

Acceptable use

Using Touchline, you agree not to:

  • scrape, hammer or overload the site, or bypass its technical limits;
  • impersonate another person, brand or organisation, or misrepresent an affiliation;
  • post anything illegal, hateful, harassing or that infringes someone else’s rights;
  • use the site, its data, its profiles or its embeds to promote betting, tipping or a sportsbook, or to present the model as a betting service.

That last point is not housekeeping. Touchline exists to be analysis you can argue with, not betting advice, and using it to sell certainty is the one thing it is not for.

Embeds

You may embed Touchline widgets, such as a profile card or a match number, on your own site under these terms. Embeds serve only public data, the same fields a visitor would see on the profile or match page itself.

Do not alter, reframe or caption an embed in a way that misrepresents what it shows or implies Touchline endorses you, and do not use an embed to dress the model up as a tip. We may change or retire the embed format, and we can withdraw access if an embed is misused.

Disclaimers and liability

Touchline is provided as is and as available. The model is a considered opinion with a probability attached, and we make no guarantee that any number, fact or forecast is accurate, complete or current. It is not financial advice and not betting advice.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Touchline is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or reliance on anything in it, including any money staked on a match. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site grows. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page, and where it is significant we will flag it on the site. Continuing to use Touchline after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute falls to the courts of England and Wales.
