About Coventry City
Coventry City began in 1883 as Singers FC, a works team of the Singer cycle factory, and took the city's name in 1898. Jimmy Hill's Sky Blue Revolution of the 1960s gave them their colours, their song and their place in the top division, which they then held for 34 consecutive seasons from 1967 to 2001. The 1987 FA Cup, won 3–2 against Tottenham through Keith Houchen's diving header and a Gary Mabbutt own goal, remains one of Wembley's great finals.
The years after relegation in 2001 ran through administration, exile and two spells in the fourth tier before the climb back. Frank Lampard, appointed in November 2024, finished the job: the 2025/26 Championship title on a club-record 95 points with 97 goals, promotion sealed with three games to spare, and a first top-flight season since 2000/01. Owner Doug King bought the CBS Arena outright in 2025, ending the ground saga that had shadowed the club for two decades.

Recent form
Champions of the 2025/26 Championship on a club-record 95 points and 97 goals, promotion sealed at Blackburn with three games to spare. Lampard signed a new deal to 2029 in June, and the summer brought a club-record £20m for Loum Tchaouna plus Aurèle Amenda and Frank Onyeka. Haji Wright's 17 league goals led the way; the question is how it all translates up a level.
