About Aston Villa

Aston Villa were founded in 1874, and it was a Villa director, William McGregor, who founded the Football League itself in 1888. Five of their seven league titles came by 1900, alongside most of their seven FA Cups; the seventh championship, in 1981, set up the club's greatest night, when Tony Barton's side beat Bayern Munich 1–0 in Rotterdam through Peter Withe to win the 1982 European Cup.

The modern revival belongs to NSWE, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens' holding company, owners since 2018, and to Unai Emery, in charge since late 2022. In 2025/26 Villa finished fourth, five points clear, and beat Freiburg 3–0 in the Europa League final, a first major trophy for 30 years and Emery's fifth in the competition. The North Stand rebuild will take Villa Park past 50,000 in time for Euro 2028.
