About Manchester United

Manchester United were founded as Newton Heath in 1878 and remade twice, by tragedy and by genius: the Busby Babes and the first English European Cup in 1968, then Alex Ferguson's 26 years, 13 Premier League titles and two more Champions Leagues. Their 20 league championships are an English record shared with Liverpool.

The decade after Ferguson was a churn of managers and false dawns, bottoming out with a 15th-place finish in 2024/25. Michael Carrick, handed caretaker charge in January 2026 after Ruben Amorim's sacking, won 11 of 16 games to lift United to third and back into the Champions League, and was given the job permanently on a contract to 2028.

Recent form

Third in 2025/26 and back in the Champions League. Ruben Amorim was sacked in January with the season drifting; Michael Carrick, in caretaker charge at first, won 11 of his 16 games, including a 3–2 win at Anfield in the run-in, and signed a permanent deal to 2028. Bruno Fernandes still sets the tempo, with Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko the rebuilt front line.
