About England
England played the first international in football's history, a 0–0 draw with Scotland in 1872, and are governed by the Football Association, the oldest such body in the game. Their defining day came in 1966, when Geoff Hurst's hat-trick beat West Germany 4–2 after extra time at Wembley, still their only major trophy.
The modern side has come closest since: World Cup semi-finalists in 1990 and 2018, and beaten finalists at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024. Thomas Tuchel took charge in January 2025, with Harry Kane, the record scorer, leading the line.
