About José Mourinho

José Mourinho began as a translator and assistant to Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal before taking charge at Porto, where he won the 2003 UEFA Cup and the 2004 Champions League as an outsider, then declared himself "the Special One" on arriving at Chelsea. Back-to-back Premier League titles followed, then a treble with Inter Milan in 2010 and La Liga with Real Madrid in 2012, the season Madrid scored a record 121 league goals.

Second spells and new jobs followed: a third Premier League with Chelsea in 2015, the 2017 Europa League and League Cup with Manchester United, then Tottenham, Roma (the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2022, the club's first European trophy) and Fenerbahçe. In October 2025 he returned to Benfica, where he first managed in 2000. A season later Real Madrid re-hired him, bringing him back 13 years after his first spell.
